Have you ever tried grilling your meats with a cheap old charcoal grill?
Don’t bother – take it from me, it’s a disaster!
It’s just so messy, the cleanup afterward is a b*tch. And even worse, the food ends up tasting of charcoal instead of tasting like succulent tender meat!
The solution of course is to get yourself a gas grill instead. And don’t worry – although they have a reputation for generally being more expensive than charcoal grills, you can still get some really great ones for under $200.
And we’re going to prove it to you. We’ve been checking out some of the best gas grills out there at the moment that come to $200 or less.
After much deliberation we were able to hand-pick our top 5 favorites, and our reviews on them are coming up very shortly.
Following on from that, we’ve also got a handy buying guide for you. It will walk you through everything you might want to think about before you buy. It makes for a great little checklist.
Let’s get straight to it…
Now, not only is Weber one of the best-selling brands in the industry, but this grill comes with phenomenal customer ratings. After well over 2,700 individual customer ratings on Amazon, the average customer rating comes in at a whopping full 5 stars out of 5! Not bad hey?
It’s also the winner of Amazon’s Choice for the category of Propane Grills by Weber. Such titles are only given to products that are both of excellent quality and available at a good, reasonable and fair price.
It may look kind of small, but in fact it offers 189 square inches of cooking space. That’s enough to fit about 6 burgers at the same time, so unless you want to cook everyone a mixed grill, then you could serve the whole family in just one sitting.
And it throws out 8500 BTU per hour of heat, so your food should heat up really quickly and be ready before you know it. And you’re in control of how much heat is thrown out. Customers rated it at 4.5 stars for temperature control.
It’s super easy and reliable to ignite, you simply push a button and voilà.
The grill gates are thick and are made with heat retaining cast iron coated in porcelain enamel, so they’re super easy to wipe clean when you’re ready to pack it away. Speaking of easy to clean, did we also mention that there’s a catch pan to catch any excess fat drippings from your food? It’s removable for cleaning.
The bulk of the grill is constructed of cast aluminum and is designed to be durable. The lid helps to prevent the grill gates getting weather-worn, and you can also use it while cooking to help retain the moisture in your food.
If you’re at all nervous about assembling it, don’t worry – there’s a video right on the product page explaining and demonstrating everything. Or if you prefer you can download the free app. Besides, it arrives almost fully assembled and customers have rated it 4.8 stars for how easy it is to assemble.
Customers also love just how compact and portable it is.
You can buy it together with a grill cover if you wish, and you can even buy a cart for it (those are sold separately).

This best-selling grill comes from top brand American Gourmet, and comes highly recommended by those who’ve tried it out. And boy, isn’t it an impressive grill? Excellent value for money if you ask us.
It offers a whopping 360 square inches of cooking space, which is more than big enough to accommodate 15 burgers at a time. Not bad hey? You can definitely feed the family and several guests.
And while you’ve got all your meats cooking, you can take advantage of the 170 square inch swing away warming rack that’s perfect for toasting a few buns while you work on getting nice char marks on your meats.
It features 3 independent burners, so you can have one on low, one on medium and one on a high heat if you so wish, giving you ultimate control and the ability to cater to different tastes (because not everyone likes their meat well done).
We also love how it features ample shelving on either side of the grill, which is great for keeping your sauces on or for prepping the food or for plating up.
It also features Piezo ignition, which is a fast and reliable means of ignition that requires only the push of a button.
The grill gates are porcelain-coated, which makes them super easy to clean after use, you simply wipe them down.
But that’s not all that’s porcelain coated, the grill lid and the firebox are too, and this gives it better durability and the ability to stand up to tough weather conditions.
You don’t need a table top to put it on because it comes on it’s own cart. This cart features wheels on one side for easy mobility, but will remain stable once you’ve put it in place.
It also comes backed by some decent warranties, specifically a 5-Year warranty on the stainless steel inline burners, a 2-Year warranty on the firebox and a 1-Year warranty on all other parts.

Here’s another fantastic gas grill. It’s a bestseller with the online retailers and has earned some great customer ratings and reviews.
It’s also been given the title of Amazon’s Choice in the category of gas grills. Such a title is only given to products that are not only of excellent quality but that are also available at a good, fair and reasonable price.
It’s a nice size, featuring a whopping 339 square inches of cooking space. And that’s not all – it also features a 132.8 square inch warming rack that sits above the cooking space, where you can keep foods warm while you’re waiting for other items to cook. It’s also great for toasting buns too!
We also love the number of burners – there’s not one, not two, but a total of three independently operated burners. This means you can have foods grilling away at up to 3 different temperatures, giving you some amazing precision in your cooking.
It can throw out up to 30,000 BTU-per hour, which effectively means that it can heat up your food super quick and have it ready in virtually no time at all. Perfect for feeding hungry tums!
Each side of the grill is a fold-up side table you can take advantage of. You can maybe use one to prep your food on and the other for plating up.
It also features Piezo ignition, which is a fast and reliable means of ignition that requires only the push of a button.
One thing we love about this particular grill is how it features an integrated thermometer in the lid. This means that you can let the lid down as the food cooks, and this helps your meats to retain their moisture, so they’re nice and juicy when they’re ready to eat!
We also love the stainless steel control panel with chromium plating control knob. Very sleek and stylish, and easy to clean to boot. Speaking of easy to clean, the grill grates themselves are porcelain-enameled, which means that all it takes to clean them is a quick wipe down.
It comes on its own portable cart, so you don’t have to worry about finding room on a table-top for it. And you can simply wheel it in from your garage into your backyard.

It may look very compact in the photo, but it actually provides 266.5 square inches of cooking space, which is plenty big enough for most families.

As promised, here’s your buying guide. We’re just going to lay out some key things to think about before you buy your gas grill.
The most important thing to consider is whether the grill has enough cooking space. If you want your family to eat all together that means having everyone’s food ready at the same time.
And that in turn means you’ll have to have enough cooking space to accommodate everyone’s food at the same time. Even more if you’re ever pressed to cook for unexpected guests.
Heat and BTU Level
The next thing to consider is how much heat is thrown out from the grill, which is measured in BTUs.
BTU just stands for British Thermal Unit. The higher the BTU level, the more heat is thrown out, which in turn means that your food will cook more quickly and be ready sooner.
A small grill with an average BTU rating will cook your burgers quicker than a larger grill with the same BTU level.
Number of Burners
The more burners you have on your grill, the more independent control you have to cook each item on the grill. You could for example have some food kept warm on a low heat, while other items can be heated on a high heat to get them ready to eat with the items being kept warm. Very handy.
Easy to Clean
Most grill enthusiasts appreciate a grill that’s easy to keep clean. Cleaning your grill is important because stuck-on food can get moldy. So, to prevent that we recommend going for grills with easy to clean grates. Porcelain enameled cast-iron is probably your best option.
Now, portability is hardly an essential feature in a grill, but it sure is a super popular one. Especially if you want to take it out tailgating, or for a vacation in your RV.
There are two main types of portable gas grills. You can have small table-top ones with a lockable lid and handle. Or you can get grills that have their own stand, but with wheels on one side, so you can simply drag them out of your garage and into your backyard when you’re ready to use it.
There’s a lot to be said for buying from a good, reputable, well established brand. You can trust products from well known brands to perform well and have a decent lifespan.
And better yet, these products are more likely to be backed by a warranty or guarantee, and any issues you might have are likely to be easily resolved.
We were sure to include popular grill brands in our shortlist of top 5 picks.
